If you already have CRA direct deposit set up with another financial institution and wish to switch it to BMO, simply follow the steps below. The new registration will ensure that all future CRA payments will be deposited into your BMO account.

You can have any of the following payments and refunds directly deposited into your account:
- Canada Emergency Response Benefit
- Canada Emergency Student Benefit
- Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy (Business Banking clients only)
- Income tax refund
- Goods and services tax/Harmonized sales tax (GST/HST) credit
- Canada child benefit
- Canada workers benefit
- Ontario trillium benefit
You only need to register once, and all your future payments and refunds from the CRA will automatically be deposited into your chosen account.
There are no age or location restrictions for CRA direct deposit. As long as you’re a Canadian with a SIN and have filed at least one tax return, you’re eligible to sign up. For business clients, the same applies, however you must also have a 15-digit business number.
This new registration will override any previous direct deposit information that you have on file with CRA. Once you register through BMO Online and Mobile Banking, all future CRA payments will be deposited into your BMO account. Note that Business Banking clients cannot register through Mobile Banking.
To find out if you’re already set up for direct deposit with CRA you just need to log in to your CRA account from the CRA website. We recommend registering through BMO Online or Mobile Banking because you’ll get confirmation of your registration and can be sure that all future CRA payments are deposited into your BMO account. Note that Business Banking clients cannot register through Mobile Banking.
The CRA usually takes 1-2 days to process direct deposit enrolments. Given the COVID-19 pandemic, the CRA might take longer than usual to process your registration.
Once you’re set up with CRA direct deposit, you should receive payments within five business days of your scheduled payment date.

You can set up CRA direct deposit for any personal or business Canadian dollar chequing or Premium Rate Savings Account you have with us.
Yes, BMO clients can enroll for direct deposit using Online Banking whether they have a personal account or a business account. Note however, that business banking clients are unable to enroll via mobile banking.
All you need to do is register for BMO Online Banking. Signing up is easy — you can do it at home and it only takes a couple minutes.
Or you can download the BMO Mobile Banking App on your mobile device and register with your debit card number. The BMO Mobile Banking App is available for download on the Apple* App Store* and Google Play™ store and can be found by searching for "BMO".
For other touch devices that don't have an app available, you can still access BMO Mobile Banking through your mobile device browser by entering m.bmo.com.
- If you want to set up direct deposit for non-CRA payments, just download the BMO Direct Deposit form and follow these steps:
- Complete the form online.
- Save or print the form.
- Attach a void cheque or include your account number, financial institution number and branch transit number.
- You can find this information on your cheques or through Online Banking under My Accounts. Select your bank account and you’ll find the information in the blue box.
- Send the completed form to the payer.
