Notice unusual activity on your account or got a strange email saying it’s from us?

Here’s what to do.

  • Have you received a suspicious email or text from BMO? Report it.

    Phishing is one of the most effective ways cybercriminals attack. Don’t reply or click on any links in unsolicited or suspicious emails or texts.

    To report a suspicious email: Send the email to us as an attachment and delete it from your inbox.To report a suspicious text message: Take a screenshot image of the message on your phone, email it to us as an attachment, and delete the message.

Remember: BMO will never contact you via unsolicited email, text or phone call asking for sensitive information, passwords or PINs. If you get a call, voicemail, email or text from someone claiming to be from BMO and you think it’s suspicious, contact us immediately using the information on the back of your card.

BMO Digital Banking and Bill Pay Service Guarantees

We’ll reimburse you for any losses to your personal banking accounts from unauthorized transactions through BMO Digital Banking. As well, if we fail to process a properly scheduled bill payment in BMO Digital Banking in accordance with your instructions, we’ll reimburse any late charges assessed by the biller.

To ensure reimbursement, you'll need to take a few steps to protect your account information, as outlined in our BMO Digital Banking Agreement.

  • Keeping an eye on your accounts can help you prevent fraud. Remember to check your bank statements regularly for unfamiliar transactions using BMO Digital Banking or paper statements.

    If you suspect that someone has gained access to important personal or financial information, or if you see anything unfamiliar, contact us at 1-888-340-2265 or visit your local BMO branch.

  • If your credit card has been lost or stolen, please refer to BMO Cardholder Resources and call the appropriate number immediately. When you receive a new card, make a note of the contact number on the back of the card. Save this number so you can manage your card any time, from anywhere.

  • Phishing scams are common, but there are ways to spot them before it’s too late. A legitimate company will never send an unsolicited email asking you to log in to your account through a link or attachment or provide sensitive information.

    Other common characteristics of phishing emails include:

    • They’re often unsolicited and contain links or attachments.
    • The 'reply-to' field may have an address that’s unrelated to the one in the 'from' field.
    • They can be poorly written or contain spelling and grammatical errors.
